force generated by swinging hammer - How many tons does a sledge produce ?

Jul 26, 2005 · How much force does a sledge generate? It was swung horizontal, and it was swung about 3 feet and it wasn't a full power swing. How would you figure the force generated by the blow? Had to be way more than 50,000 lbs of force, because it moved reasonably easy? P.S. I am not a sledge kind of a person, this was a last resort. Dave J. What is a good and easy way to compute and/or measure the force of a hammer blow, not using any fancy or specialized equipment? If the hammer is swung by hand through an arc, it is not obvious to me how to measure the speed the hammer will be when it strikes the metal.

Oct 09, 2013 · I have tried swinging the hammer at a scale for the impact force, but the force is too high and too quick for the scale to capture it. I am trying to differentiate between different types of hammering tasks and need something beyond simulated grip force. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Rachel. Jan 17, 2012 · Which excerts more force, a sledgehammer in full swing or a bullet? maintaining its mass and its velocity, I would think it would exert less force than if one were to swing a regular sledgehammer. unless you'd rather take a sledgehammer swing to the shoulder than fire a rifle, you'd estimate that the hammer exerts more force than the.

Aug 15, 2008 · Lets say I have a hydraulic press that can produce a determined amount of force (lets say 4 tons in this case) in order to crush a cement block. I want to compare that amount of force, to the amount of force in swinging a sledge hammer and striking the block. How can i determine this? let's say the sledge hammer weighs 6 pounds. i guess you'd sort of have to estimate the velocity of the hammer Followers: 1. Apr 04, 2012 · With a sledge hammer you are more concerned with the kinetic energy that you impart to the head by swinging it. With a 4 pd hammer and a 16 inch handle you can swing with one hand. With a 16 pd head the length of handle would be long enough to swing with 2 hands and if you do it right you can put your whole body movement behind the swing.
